Small Garden Story

Over some 15 + years, I have been photographing the evolution of my small (85 x 15 foot) garden and it seems a waste not to put these records into some sort of context. Beginning here in April 2010 this Blog is intended to both act as a diary and to share past and present successes (and some failures), pleasures and disappointments with fellow garden-lovers. In due course, I intend to fill in some of the background and early days but that will have to wait until the winter months!

Wood mouse

I was thrilled to see an old friend in the garden this weekend.   During the summer I had regular sightings of wood mice who seem to have made their home in the shrubs just in front of the french windows.   They seem to love peanuts and the place I see them most often is on a bird feeder which they share mainly with blue tits.   I don't know who is most afraid of who!

When I first saw these long-whiskered, white-bellied little mice I was a bit worried they may want to come into the house but although one brave creature actually ran under the kitchen step I was sitting on to steal sandwich crumbs one day, they have never ventured in.

They just provide the most wonderful entertainment.

    1. Thank you Joseph. The mice were wonderful to see but sadly there no longer seem to be any living in the garden. I don't know if our hard winters or too many cats and squirrels have deterred them but I hope they come back some time.
